Journal Club kicks off our 2021-2022 academic year in person! and we would like to extend a warm welcome to our new interns and your family members. This past year has provided us with some incredible challenges, and I want to thank everyone for making the best of trying to help keep JC relevant and interesting. This month, we will discuss an important bread and butter EM topic namely, the evaluation of chest pain in the ED. Publication of the GRACE guidelines for the evaluation of CP was a project that has been three years in the making by whom I consider the EBM wizards of EM. It provides us with the best available evidence and recommendations that may help us to be more efficient in our workups and cause less harms from unnecessary testing. We have also included an article on the HEART score that gives some insight into how to critically appraise a decision tool. Also, I included a major publication for our newbies below

Innes G. Successful hospitalization of patients with no discernible pathology. CJEM. 2000 Jan;2(1):47-51.

Woolum: Green SM, Schriger DL. A Methodological Appraisal of the HEART Score and Its Variants. Ann Emerg Med. 2021 Apr 28:

Neubauer and Reuss: Musey P et al., Guidelines for reasonable and appropriate care in the emergency department (GRACE): Recurrent, low-risk chest pain in the emergency department. Acad Emerg Med. 2021 Jul 6.
