This month JC is very excited about soliciting YOUR ADVICE regarding how you approach stress mitigation, personal wellness and strategize for longevity in EM. For that reason, we want a BIG turnout from folks who run the gamut from recently out of residency to those who are mid or late career and maybe, even a few recently retired partners, all of whom I expect, will have much to contribute. The attached articles will provide a framework for our discussion, but our residents really want to hear about your experiences and advice. We would particularly appreciate our women EM attendings insights as the attached AAMC article is telling. Also, those of you who have non-EM sources of income, clinical or otherwise, would be most welcome to share your experiences. Undoubtedly, there has been a lot of recent attention given to physician burnout with over 700 PubMed citations in 2019 alone (thank you millennials!).  Oftentimes, institutional “remedies” get a roll of the eyes as residents continue to work a tremendous number of hours and all of our administrative burdens have grown astronomically with no signs of relief. On a local level, we have been inspired by our colleagues Matt Jones and Ashton Schwerin who have helped to develop wellness initiatives that are improving our own practice community.
