Team JC is happy to announce the return of our joint EM and Peds-EM journal club. We will be looking at a few different topics of interest which I expect will generate lots of interesting discussion. The initial description of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) dates back to a case cluster in 2019 (Lancet) and in 2020 a case definition was published by the CDC. To date there have been approximately 8,000 reported cases and 65 attributable deaths reported. Interestingly, MIS-C has developed as a late manifestation in initially “asymptomatic” Covid-19 infections. The clinical assessment of infants < 3 months old with blunt head injury is challenging to say the least. The PECARN group has published a secondary analysis of their head injury database in this population, and we will attempt to appraise their findings. Finally, the duration of antibiotic therapy for a host of illnesses has been called into question and systematic reviews have suggested that shortening thew course of antibiotic therapy may reduce harms and bacterial resistance. We will look at an RCT for CAP in kids and discuss the issue of antibiotic stewardship  Charlie
